2017 Community Investment Connections EXPO Creators

These non-profit projects from Creators will be presented to traditional and non-traditional investors in community and economic development, while receiving valuable feedback from panels of expert project evaluators and recognition for the Best Project in their respective category.

The Categories and their Creators are:

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Enterprising Latinas– Wimauma: A transit system designed to provide reliable transportation for lower-income persons in an isolated rural community that will provide jobs and opportunities for area residents.
Greater Ocala CDC-Ocala: The development of an educational center and business incubator that will offer resources and services designed to help improve the quality of life of lower-income area residents and provide incubator services to start-up businesses with the potential to provide employment and positive social impact.
Lee County Housing Development Corp.-Ft. Myers: The development of a centrally located, transit accessible community center designed to provide one-stop services for the homeless, those at risk of homelessness and very-low and low-income residents, transforming the way in which services are delivered.
Neighborhood Renaissance-Lake Worth: Building upon a long-established art community by adding 8 newly constructed live/work artist spaces targeting low- to moderate-income households and the inclusion of a 2,400 sq. ft. commercial building to support the development of arts related businesses.
NeighborWorks Florida Collaborative-statewide: The Creation of a statewide Individual Development Account program (matched savings accounts) in a dozen locations across the state that assists lower-income persons to save to acquire economic assets, including first-time homeownership, business start-up or post-secondary education.

HOUSING DEVELOPMENT
Ability Housing-Orlando: 166 high quality, energy-efficient rental units, all affordable for low-income individuals & families (50% for formerly homeless) and inclusive of wrap-around services designed to help residents succeed.
Greater Frenchtown Neighborhood Improvement Assn.-Tallahassee: A single-family, energy efficient homeownership rehabilitation and infill project for low-income persons with financial literacy, family counseling and other support services.
Neighborhood Renaissance-West Palm Beach: 36 quality built, energy efficient rental homes for low- to moderate-income persons located in a designated Urban Redevelopment Area with access to good schools, shopping, community services & transportation.

PROGRAMS THAT EMPOWER  PEOPLE
CDC of Tampa-Hillsborough County: An economic opportunity center based on a national model that provides services to at-risk persons in asset building, employment, financial capability, income supports, job skills and education through the cooperation of 18 service providers in a major metropolitan area.
Housing and Education Alliance-national: The reproduction of an existing and tested EDUtainment, on-demand, on-line homebuyer curriculum using cartoons, games and videos on its own e-commerce/e-learning platform in both English and Spanish.
University Area CDC-Hillsborough County: A social enterprise project integrating fee-based visual and performing arts into interactive learning and social engagement transforming youth and families in underserved communities.
